Internet Divided In New AITA Post After Man Implies That His Toddler Is More Important Than Brother's Dog And Threatens To Ruin Family Vacation Over Dog's Attendance

Some people aren't dog people. We don't understand them, but we understand that there are people out there who don't like dogs. One of them is the author of this AITA post, who doesn't want to go on his annual family vacation because his brother has a small dog, whom he also wants to bring on the trip. The author of the post has an 18-month old toddler, which is seemingly unrelated to his dislike of dogs and why he doesn't want the dog to come.

Naturally, his brother wants to bring the dog, his family, on the family vacation. The author writes, "I'm not a dog person, I despise them on airplanes. I do not want to travel with the dog….I do not want to stay the week in the same house as the dog…" etc. Here's the kicker, he even describes the dog as "too kind" and "well-behaved". So it's not even the dog's fault, it's just this guy's hatred of dogs. What do you think, should he suck it up and try to like the dog? Or should he not deal with dogs if he doesn't like them?

    TRUE. An 18-month-old definitely is going to cry more and require more planning around activities than a dog. The dog might even help with entertainment for the toddler! If its a well-trained dog, it shouldn't be a problem. Sorry OP, YTA.

Perhaps an unpopular opinion, but 'family' isn't defined solely by squirting out an infant or having shared the same space pre-birth. He has told you that his dog is a non-negotiable, and I assume that your toddler is a non- negotiable. You hate dogs, he might hate kids. Neither is more or less valid.     Font - Odd_Significance7396 10 days ago This. Having a kid doesn't make someone more important, or their reasons more valid. Family is what a person decides it is for themselves. I've been on holidays with family friends with both dogs and kids of all ages and sizes, and the brother's statement is correct. Also as others have pointed out: this vacation is 100% going to revolve around your toddler, not the dog. You don't want to do dog friendly activities, others may not want to do baby friendly activities. If he wants to bring his dog, that's fine. Lots of people take dogs to beach vacations. You don't want activities to be based on being dog friendly, but are you expecting all the adults to put up with the activities all having to be child friendly?
